    YA Tips Empty YA Tips

Post by Paul Tue Apr 14, 2009 4:18 pm

Reproduced with kind permission from Jeff The Bear:
Long long post coming up...get your reading glasses on people!

Right then, there’s been lots of talk about the YA, and the ability (or lack thereof) of predicting the csr/worth of any given youth pulled. I firmly believe you can predict (and will go on to prove it below)…but before we start, there’s 3 very important and painfully obvious points:

1.You must have the player in the right position in your YA. Extraordinarily difficult I know, but it makes the difference between pulling a 20,000csr player and pulling a 12,000csr player given he same time in the YA. Simply put, if you have a potential flanker he’ll train up quicker at a flanking position than he would if you tried him at fullback.

    2. All games and subsequent Reporter’s Summary’s have to have been done at WNWIM. You’re stupid if you’re not doing this already, but it’s worth mentioning.

    3. You must be investing $50,000 per week into the academy

Next are the rules by which you pull.

    1. Leave any youth in the academy team for 6-8 weeks min (More is always better and remember, at WNWIM and in the correct position)

    2. Check any given players 3 best Reporter’s Summary’s in that time

    3. Pick the best player who conforms to the grading as worked out below.

    4. Very very few players get better than Impressive (To Potential). This is the practical upper limit (You can get better, as we’ll see below, but they will have had to be have been scouted high, and left in the academy for a season +)

Now I’m going to go through a handful of pulls from my youth academy to show the pattern at work and how to predict:

    Quote:

    -Joseph Cadwaladr (Centre/wing)

    Reputable (Below potential)

    Admirable (Below potential)

    Impressive (To potential)

    Obviously an impressive player

    Finally got promoted @ 22068csr

    Quote:

    -Todd Kennedy (Lock)

    Reputable (Below potential)

    Reputable (Below potential)

    Decent (Below potential)

Which made Kennedy a probable ‘Admirable’ player

    Finally got promoted @ 17332csr

    Quote:

    -Aidan Edwards (Centre)

    Admirable (Below potential)

    Impressive (To potential)

    Reputable (Below potential)

    Again, another Impressive player

    Finally got promoted @ 19106csr

    Quote:

    -Rhys Bufton (Flanker/No.Cool

    Impressive (To potential)

    Reputable (Below potential)

    Admirable (Below potential)

Another Impressive player. Yes, my academy is the shit! Cool

    Finally got promoted @ 21036csr

    Quote:

    -Noah Gethin (Flanker)

    Impressive (Below potential)

    Admirable (Below potential)

    Impressive (To potential)

My one and only ever “Impressive (Below Potential)” on his last week before being pulled meant he came out at a Princely rating.

    Finally got promoted @ 25083csr

    Quote:

    -Liam Rodders (Flanker)

    Admirable (Below potential)

    Impressive (To potential)

    Admirable (Below potential)

    Yet another Imrpessive player

    Finally got promoted @ 17511csr

    Quote:

    - Sebastian Lavelle (No.Cool

    Satisfactory (Below potential)

    Decent (Below potential)

This final one is important with regards to the first point made. He was 117kg, 191cm, and looked every bit the backrower. He had some ropey Summary’s, and given that I didn’t have another player who I wanted to pull, I thought I’d pull him to make way for someone else. However, when he got pulled he had great back stats (attack, speed, handling) along side some decent flanker stats. He know plays fullback for me and is a great all-rounder.

Moral of the story being that no matter how well you try and pick a players position, it will bite you on the arse now and again (Hopefully in a good way like it did for me here)

    Finally got promoted @ 18849csr

And before anyone calls bullshit, check these players out, all bar one is still in my squad and all were pulled in the past couple of months.

So, in summary…I predicted all of the above to within 3000csr at the time (With the last one being an obvious exception), and with every new pull, the predictions are being refined. Remember, “Something (Below potential)” can mean anything, so “Something (To potential)” is always better to go on.

From the above I have come to the conclusion that:

Reputable rating in YA = 12,500csr to somewhere undefined below
Admirable Rating in YA = 12,500csr to 17,500csr
Impressive Rating in YA = 17,500csr to 25,000csr
Princely Rating in YA = 25,000csr to somewhere undefined above

(These are not set in stone, and are subject to change if any new data arises)

Just been reading some YA tips from thet aussie offsite forum. Hiphop mentioned that playing WNWIM in the youth academy is equivalent to giving the player 8 individual sessions. They are all specific to the position as well, so if you want a rounded player, move them around in the line-up. If you want a specialist in a certain area, keep them in one position all season and they should improve a lot.

Any advice on improving stamina in the YA, I have some decent pulls but they all seem to come out 5-6 on stamina and I don't know about anyone else but I think that too low for the senior squad.

If they do get in game training that is equivalent to 8 sessions, then one at least must be stamina, so leaving them in should give them better stamina. I'm guessing that all positions will train stamina equally.

I want to keep my squad at 25, so if one comes in, another will go to the TM. I think I'll only promote in future when they have at least 16-20+ games in the YA (If I keep an eye on my 16yr olds, I should still get decent 17yr olds).

Incredibly useful and I think accurate assessment of the YA system. Having overhauled my YA over the course of a season, I'm slowly replacing the squad at full investment and 10 stars. Hopefully this will give me a windfall of talent to be pulled towards the end of this season/early next season. I also believe you're correct in what you say about the value of finding the right position. My current fly half Bibb is rating at 'Impressive To potential', as opposed to his initial 'Reputable To potential' ratings at 12/13. Hopefully a good prospect!

I'd almost not played any attention at all to my YA, but now I'm off to try and see what can be done. I've never pulled anyone, but I have a squad of 35, so I'll shrink it a bit before I do.

EDIT: Just as well I did! I've got a fullback who's just given two 'Monumental' performances in a row! I'll pull him in a week or so. I've already got two good FBs, but I'll find space for him.

Wouldn't get too excited. Full backs have ridiculous ratings. the best indication is to look at what ratings are below or to potential

Yes - any ratings when you have played 'normal' or 'ltnt' with your youth team are worthless - as are any ratings 'above' potential.

    Hi Guys,
I am hoping to start investing 50K in my ya this season as i will have level 3 facilities and trainers in the next couple of weeks. i also have about 7 19yr olds in my ya at the mo so if I start investing at week 8 I should get a decent number of newbies. The only thing that worries me is finance, what sort of stadium income/money in the bank do I need to stop me going bankrupt rapidly. At the mo I have around 400,000 in the bank and my stadium profit is 98k. I have expanded and when that is complete in a couple of weeks I will hopefully get full stadia and a profit of around 124k.
Is the ya a viable option with this financial set up, bearing in mind that i would also like to buy a welsh trainee this season to try and get him in the u20?

    Hi guys,
    My first post Smile
I read the tips a while back, before I knew how hooked I'd get. Got my investment up to 25k so far (trying to improve everything at the same time instead of using the money on players Doh) Don't really want to go backwards now though as I think I can afford to up it again in a few weeks.
Now they have changed the reporters summary, can anyone tell me how this changes the potential ratings. I had players regularly having Decent (8th rating) now they are getting 3stars??? At half a star being 1 then this doesn't tie up??

Welcome to the offsite....1st thing - forget the old reports!

If you are getting a couple of 3 stars then you are doing allright! Wouldnt bother with 25 investment though, either 50 or 5. But you'll do well with 3 star youths either way

Cant afford 50k but thought that half that would at least let me get some youth players 10k+ CSR to sell or train up. Praying on newbies Smile as the first few players I bought were about 10k. Noticing that a lot of players are being sold for more than they are worth and hoped I'd get lucky.
Cant promote the better youth players at the moment because they are front rowers and not got any heavy enough to take their place. Just promoting some 19yr olds who were there when I started at 5k to make way for scouted at 25k???? Don't know whether its worth it now.

if you plan going up to at 50k at any point, dont promote your 19 yearolds. they will all retire at the end of the year and change into spanking good kids

Woko, I have gone down to 5k for a few weeks to get some cash behind me. I have also upgraded the stadium a bit to help cover going up to 50k for the last eight weeks of this season. I have 4 19 year olds that I wont touch. How long should I leave their replacements in the YA to be worth pulling. My squad has 2 players 20K+ and I only have 15 players above 12k CSR. I don't want to waste them by pulling them straight away but I am not earning much cash yet and wondered if they would leapfrog some of my worse players or be worth selling straight away???

Just out of interest, it says that we should play players in their correct positions for the youth team. How do we know what that position is? There are no stats to judge them on for individual positions. Short of being able to pick a front 5 based on size only I dont see what else you can do?

It's quite annoying, but the youth team can't be completely transparent or it would all be too easy.
